Seth Godin: What is School For?
What is School For?
How would you like to learn?
I would like to learn by fun stuff. For example you could be thinking before a test what was the test about oh yah that was the day we had fun and learned about whatever. Pencil and paper is harder you could be thinking about what was the test over we just wrote notes over that we write notes all the time so what did we write about? It is more confusing. What would you like to be taught?
I would like to learn by learning about specific jobs rather than just math or science like how to for example if you wanted to be a doctor you could learn how to give medicinesFriday, October 19, 2012

Blog 11:TED BLOG ASSIGNMENT
If you are good at those three subjects you can design things."Good at math and art.""Good at math."The font in a word changes its feeling. Technology makes possibilities, design makes solution, and art makes questions. Leadership makes action. Technology has went from text to images to sounds to movies to infinite loop.

Blog 10: What Type of Learner am I?
Define and explain which learning style said that you
prefer.
______________________________________ This means ___________________________...
I am kinaesthetic learner. A kinaethetic learner is those who prefer to learn by touch rather then by simply watching. They prefer to jump right in. Kinesthetic learners can be restless or hyperactive when under-stimulated physically.

On Thursday we discussed AUGMENTED REALITY. How is AUGMENTED REALITY being used in the classroom. CLICK HERE FOR EDUDEMIC AUGMENTED REALITY *Editor's Note: This is one of my ALL-TIME favorite websites.
After you've read through the article, list the five AR websites that interest you the most, describing them briefly (You may cut and paste the information from Edudemic):
1.Augmented Reality Development Lab
Affiliated with such itty-bitty, insignificant companies as Google, Microsoft, and Logitech, the Augmented Reality Development Lab run by Digital Tech Frontier seeks to draw up projects that entertain as well as educate. The very core goal of the ARDL — which classrooms can purchase in kits at various price levels — involves creating interactive, three-dimensional objects for studying purposes.
2.MITAR Games
Developed by MIT’s Teacher Education Program and The Education Arcade, MITAR Games blend real-life locations with virtual individuals and scenarios for an educational experience that research proves entirely valid. Environmental Detectives, its first offering, sends users off on a mystery to discover the source of a devastating toxic spill.
3.FETCH! Lunch Rush
Education-conscious parents who want L’il Muffin and Junior to learn outside the classroom might want to consider downloading PBS Kids’ intriguing iPhone and iPod Touch app. Keep them entertained in the car or on the couch with a fun little game for ages six through eight meant to help them build basic math skills visually.
4.School in the Park Augmented Reality Experience
Third graders participating in the 12-year-old School in the Park program engage with AR via smartphones as they explore Balboa Park, the San Diego History Center, and the world-class San Diego Zoo. Not only do they receive exposure to numerous educational digital media resources, teachers also train them in creating their very own augmented reality experiences!
5. QR Code scavenger hunts
Smartphones equipped with a QR code reader make for optimal tools when sending students on scavenger hunts across the classroom or school. The Daring Librarian, Gwyneth Anne Bronwynn, sends kids on an augmented reality, animated voyage through the library to figure out where to find everything and whom to ask for assistance.
Choose three of the above websites from above and paste their featured links here:
1.FETCH! Lunch Rush http://www.pbs.org/about/news/archive/2011/fetch-lunch-rush-app/
2.School in the Park Augmented Reality Experiencehttp://www.schoolinthepark.org/
3.QR Code Scavenger Hunts http://www.thedaringlibrarian.com/2012/05/qr-code-quest-scavenger-hunt-part-deux.html
Of the three websites that you choose to feature, which of them do you find the most beneficial to learning in the classroom with AR? Explain why you choose the site you did! (This is a two step question, answer both parts!)
Of these three sights i like FETCH! Lunch Rush because we can learn while having fun too!
Take a screenshot of the AR site that you liked the most and paste it here (ask a classmate if you do not remember how to do this - NETWORK!). Save the picture to your H-drive first, the use the BLOG tool PICTURE to post it.

The last think you'll need to do today is check out this link: HOW MUCH WOOD WOULD A WOOD CHUCK CHUCK IF..
Just kidding. After you've looked at the list of TED TALK lectures, list five that you would be interested in viewing in an upcoming class video/discussion forum.
1.Benjamin Zander on music and passion
2.Jamie Oliver’s TED Prize wish: Teach every child about food
3.Arthur Benjamin does “Mathemagic”
4.Carolyn Porco: Could a Saturn moon harbor life?
5.Pattie Maes and Pranav Mistry demo SixthSense

Blog 9: Symbolism and Imagery
FAHRENHEIT
451
Sept. 19, 2012
Define SYMBOLISM
The practice of representing things by symbols, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character.
LINK: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/symbolism
DEFINE IMAGERY
The formation of mental images, figures, or likenesses of things, or of such images collectively: the dim imagery of a dream.
LINK: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Imagery?s=t
Discuss three different uses of symbolism and imagery in the book, "Fahrenheit 451." Post a picture of this image with each description.
The Hearth and the Salamander: Both the hearth and the salamander symbolize fire. A hearth is a fireplace and traditionally represents the home. In mythology, the salamander could live in fire and not be harmed. Salamander is also the name of Montag's firetruck.

The Sieve and the Sand: The title of the second part of Fahrenheit 451 symbolizes Montag's effort to learn as he reads (kind of like reading Shakespeare in your English class in the 8th grade). Sand is knowledge that eludes him. The sieve is his mind trying to make the knowledge permanent.

The Phoenix: The mythologies of many Mediterranean cultures include the story of the phoenix, a bird that is consumed by flames but then rises from the ashes. The phoenix is a symbol for renewal, for life that follows death in a cleansing fire. After the city is reduced to ashes by bombers in Fahrenheit 451, Granger makes a direct comparison between human beings and the story of the phoenix. Both destroy themselves in fire. Both start again amid the ashes. If people keep books—which preserve the past and allow people to learn the lessons of prior tragedies—Granger hopes that humanity will remember the suffering caused by destruction, and will avoid destroying itself in the future.

Blog 5: 9/11 Remembering
I was not old enough to remember 9/11 but by learing about it in school makes me feel sad about what has happened. I am glad that my teachers have taught me about what happened, who did it, and why they did it. When i was in elementary school I was too young to realize how important and serious this day was. I learned that not only did the Twin Towers get hit but the Pentagon too! One more thing i learned is that one of the planes that were high-jacked crashed into the ground by accident.

Civil Liberties vs.
Airport Scanners
Prior 9/11
·
Rules not as strict
·
Easier and quicker getting onto
airplanes
·
Kitchen utensils not a big deal
·
we didn’t have full body scanners
·
safer to fly
·
There’s a list that tells you what
you can and cannot pack
·
Body Scanners?
·
Strip Searches!!
·
It takes forever to get through
security
·
Lots of delays because of security

Blog 2: 451 Quote
“With school turning out more runners,
jumpers, racers, tinkerers, grabbers, snatchers, fliers, and swimmers
instead of examiners, critics, knowers, and imaginative creators, the word
'intellectual,' of course, became the swear word it deserved to be.”
― Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
